The star, who has been living in America for 25 years while headlining his Las Vegas show, said: “I've been almost reclusive, I come and work and then go back to America. I thought, it's time for me to come home and get out of my own way in a way.

“And do something completely out of my comfort zone. I'm quite shy off stage so I'll have to face all those demons and learn.”

He continued, explaining how he needs to learn how to dance: “Somebody's going to have to teach me, I have to learn.

“When I do my songs I move obviously but you don't really know what you're doing. To be judged on this show is actually exciting to me. I've got butterflies for the first time in three decades.”

Matt also revealed he got the call last month and was referred to as the codename American Bulldog to keep it under wraps.

Matt is well-loved for being one half of 1980s pop group Bros, which stars his brother Luke as the drummer.

He previously appeared on the Christmas special in 2013.

The When Will I Be Famous? singer hit headlines in 2018 after the release of the Bros documentary After The Screaming Stops, which saw him embroiled in screaming rows with Luke as they attempted to make a comeback.

He later revealed he was forced to sell a range of designer watches to keep a float when they split up in 1992, with debts of half a million pounds.

Earlier today KISS FM Dj Tyler West was the seventh name revealed to be competing against the likes of Paralympic hero Ellie Simmonds and  comedian Jayde Adams to battle it out for the Glitterball trophy.

They will join previously confirmed contestants, Coronation Street actors Will Mellor and Kym Marsh, Loose Women star Kaye Adams and Radio 2's Richie Anderson.

Four new professional dancers will appear in the new series of Strictly, creating the show's largest ever roster.

It comes after two-time winner Oti Mabuse and Aljaz Skorjanec announced their departures.

The last series was won by Rose Ayling-Ellis with professional partner Giovanni Pernice.

The forthcoming 20th series will see audiences return to the studio, with the launch show scheduled to be recorded on September 7.
